Several weeks ago, I met my sisters for dinner at Maggie McFly's. I've been eating mostly gluten-free for a while now (OK, I went a little gluteny over the holidays, but the New Year's resolution has been to go gluten-free, and so far so good).
I was being fairly orthodox at the time I went to dinner with my sisters, and had gotten a few nasty surprises when it came to gluten - it's amazing what you eat that you don't know has wheat in it. And I've discovered it ain't easy to avoid the stuff. (Side note: whoever develops gluten-free bread that doesn't suck deserves a Nobel Prize).
Eating out has been a challenge. Most things I love are off the menu - pasta, pizza, bread, etc. Salads have been my go-to, but it's tough to eat salads all the time. And I've had to get an iPhone app to try and figure out what I can eat and what I can't. So imagine how happy I was when I got to Maggie McFly's and found out that they have "GF" happily noted next to gluten-free menu items - and there are many.
Not only that, but they also have an entire organic page! Way to go, Maggie's.
I'm a sucker for iceberg wedges, and I wasn't all that hungry, so I went that route. I also brought the Japanese noodle salad back for the hubby, and he said it was really good.
So, if you're in the Brookfield, Middlebury or Southbury, CT area, and you're looking for a place with Gluten-Free and/or organic/natural options, check them out!
